The colony of freetail bats at Bracken is the largest colony of mammals in the world

10 million female bats come her to give birth during the summer. Each has one pup. Therefore by late summer there are an estimated 20 million bats in Bracken cave and they all need to exit the cave each evening to feed.
The bats fly from San Antonio southeast toward Corpus Christi. Their principal food is the moth, and they save farmers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year that would otherwise be spent on pesticides to keep those moths from eating their crops.
